Duane L. Swanson

Duane L. Swanson, 74 of rural Dakota City passed away Saturday September 17, 2011 at a Sioux City Hospital. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, Nebraska with the Rev. Brion Tolzman officiating. Burial will be in the Omaha Valley Cemetery rural Homer, NE. Following the service at the cemetery the will be a lunch at the church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 P.M. Duane was born March 26, 1937 in Pender, Nebraska the son of Fred and Mae C. (Fanning) Swanson. He grew up in the Pender area later moving to Walthill. He graduated from Winnebago Nebraska High School. He married Loralee A. Stricklett August 31, 1957 in South Sioux City. The couple farmed for fifty years. When they retired from farming, the couple moved to rural Dakota City. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill. He loved the outdoors, camping and tending to the farm. He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Loralee, two sons: Steve of Fremont, Nebraska, David of West Palm Beach, Florida, a daughter Julie and her husband Larry Stinger of Dakota City, four grandchildren: Kylie Stinger and her finance Nick Horan, Jordyn, Kayla and Alexa Swanson, two sisters and their husbands: Dorothy and Gary Renner of Gering, Nebraska, Marjorie and Ed Stansberry of Walthill, Nebraska, sisters-in-law: Jean Meyer of Tampa, Florida, Iona (Merlyn) Kimbell of South Sioux City and nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Swanson, Wilber Fuscher, Leonard Peters, Lloyd Stansberry and Mearle Nieman. Casket bearers will be Eddie Stansberry, Mike Foggarty, Gary Olsen, Tom Fuscher, Jim Swanson and Merlyn Kimbell.
